About

REPORTER - PRODUCER - EDITOR - Fact checker

I work on mostly magazine-style features in any medium, but I’m up for whatever helps make sense of things. I’m unaffiliated so I can be nimble and chase after what seems to need attention. I’m particularly interested in vital but tricky stories no one else has the patience for. (For example, my friend Christine MacDonald and I spent more than two years figuring out a way to quantify how much the City of Detroit overtaxed homeowners after the Great Recession. The answer we came up with is at least $600 million.)

I love editing others’ work and I’ve been known to check a fact or two. I find both roles soothing in contrast to the ulcer-generating vigilance of reporting.

I’m also working on squeezing my workday into the time my two young children are at school and leaving it at that. (It works better than you might think.)

I love collaboration. Got something in mind? Hit me.
